Tórshavn – Bøsdalafossur – Gásadalur – Norðadalur – Saksun – Tjørnuvík – Slættaratindur mountain – Suðuroy island – Villingardalsfjal mountain – Tórshavn
The Faroe Islands are a good example for what the Earth might have looked like millions of years ago. There are rocks and cliffs everywhere, also extinct volcanoes, waterfalls and lakes—surrounded by the ocean. Now its green meadows bask in the sun’s rays (which never goes down in the summertime), now leaden clouds hang low over them. We shall commence our trip across this faraway corner of Europe far in the Atlantic Ocean by starting from a small fishing village in a god-forgotten bay hiking across mountains and past waterfalls.
After a tour around Tórshavn, the capital of the islands, we shall start our hiking route in the west of the archipelago, at Gásadalur waterfall, where a small shepherd village is located. Visiting the famous Bøsdalafossur waterfall where a sweet-water lake rushes its waters into the ocean over a rocky bench, we shall move on further east. We shall see the best landscapes on the islands in the area of Norðadalur and then arrive on the rim of the 300-meter drop at Saksun. Then we shall climb Villingardalsfjal mountain in order to admire the great view opening from it over most northern islands.
During our trip we shall stay overnight at camping sites. A minibus will serve for our transfers from one hiking route to another. Accordingly, one must only carry a small rucksack with such things that would be needed during the day.
